Buying Guide

When IBM introduced the first PC in 1981 with an 8MHz processor, no hard drive and a price tag over £1000 our Senior Technician was just starting out in the industry. Since then we have seen processor power increase a thousand times giving us supercomputer power on the desktop for much less money.

First time buyers need to establish what they will want to achieve with a computer. If you're not quite sure then call us, we can guide you in the typical uses and which computer will be suitable.

You could also consider attending an IT training course. Many community support organisations and schools offer free courses at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

Please bear in mind that the majority of computer and IT related products we all use are manufactured in the far east in massive volumes. As product specifications are constantly being updated "last weeks flavour" is often discounted to reduce stock by the big retailers, hence the major TV advertising campaigns. TopValuePC.com leaves holding stock to the trade suppliers and thus we can supply bargain prices as well as the latest specifications.

Fixed line broadband connections like mobile phone contracts vary greatly in terms of what you get for your monthly payment. Features such as upload and download speed, bandwidth limits, quality of service, contention ratio, contract length and disconnection fees can all be completely different.

Our Internet Service Provider since 1996 has been Demon Internet. We find their service to be reliable and they provide 24x7 support at standard call rates. On the downside they aren't the cheapest and on occasions their accounting hasn't been the best.

Our suppliers are all working to reduce their environmental impact by designing the hardware to contain more recycleable materials and by taking back end of life equipment under the WEEE scheme.
